Resmi Malko
(Albania - U.K)
Professor at Akademie des Tanzes
In May 2024,
Resmi Malko joined the faculty of the Académie des Tanzes, which is part of the Mannheim University of Music and Performing Arts, bringing with him a wealth of experience and expertise in ballet.
Resmi began his ballet training at the Academy of Ballet in Tirana, Albania. After graduating in 1985, he joined the National Opera Ballet Theater in Albania and was promoted to first dancer within two years. He spent the next 15 years performing with the company and touring in various countries, including Italy, France, Turkey, Greece, Poland, Croatia, Bulgaria, the USA, and Canada.
After moving to North America, Malko performed with the Canadian company Ballet Jörgen. In 2003, he graduated with honors from the Teacher Training Program for Professional Dancers at the National Ballet School (NBS) in Canada and joined the NBS artistic teaching staff that same year. After 10 years at NBS, Resmi expanded his teaching experience by joining New English Ballet Theatre as Ballet Master in 2012 and 2013.
For over 14 years, Resmi was a significant part of the artistic staff at the Central School of Ballet in London. He mentored students who competed in international competitions, including the Prix de Lausanne, where several of his students reached the finals; the Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP), where one of his students won 3rd place and several were in the top 12; and the BBC Young Dancer competition, where his students were awarded in the ballet category. One notable student he mentored won three gold medals, the Margot Fonteyn Audience Award, and the Choreography Prize at the Genée International Ballet Competition—a first in the competition’s 88-year history.
In addition to teaching, Resmi has choreographed and directed classical repertoire for the school’s end-of-year performances and for Ballet Central, the school’s third-year touring company. He also teaches regularly as a guest teacher in the UK, Europe, and internationally, with recent engagements in Singapore. Resmi has been a judge at various competitions, including the Youth America Grand Prix, International Ballet Grand Prix Singapore, Youth Arts Festival Singapore, and Crystal of Dance Italy.
